Abstract

Basidiobolus is a rare fungus which leads to cutaneous and extra cutaneous manifestations such as gastrointestinal disease that are associated with significant morbidity. Majority of cases in literature were reported from Saudi Arabia. So far no guideline exists for Basidiobolus management. Here we report two pediatric gastrointestinal Basidiobolus cases both has been started on medical therapy alone. Furthermore, we conduct brief literature review that include descriptive review of reported cases in the literature since 2013. So far 79 pediatric cases have been reported in the last 10 years. We noticed significant trending up of medical therapy in compare to surgical therapy in last decade in compare to previous reports before 2013. In addition to that, similar cure rate has been observed. We have reported increase in Voriconazole popularity after decades of Itraconazole traditional use to treat Basidiobolus infection.
